Christian Education in a Pluralistic Culture: Growing Children in Today's World May, 4-6, 2020

The panel “Christian Views on Gender and Family Life Today” invites contributions that explore how Christian theological, biblical, and pastoral perspectives can illuminate contemporary challenges related to gender roles, family structures, and parental responsibilities in an era of rapid social and cultural transformation and ideological challanges. We welcome papers that examine traditional and emerging interpretations within various Christian traditions-especially Eastern Orthodoxy-regarding masculinity and femininity, marriage, child-rearing, and community life, as well as analyses of how these perspectives engage with current debates on identity, societal norms, and ethical practice. By bringing together interdisciplinary and historically informed research, this panel seeks to foster a nuanced and constructive dialogue on how Christian identity can both respond to and shape understandings of gender and family life in the modern world. The panel "Creative Christian Witnessing: Sacred Music, Film and Art in a Changing World" aims to examine the ways in which artistic expressions inspired by the Christian tradition are manifested, transformed and recontextualized in contemporary society. In a cultural landscape shaped by mobility, pluralism, and rapid technological advancement, sacred music, film, and art become privileged spaces for dialogue between spiritual heritage and emerging forms of sensibility. The inquiry seeks to explore the relationship between Christian identity and current creative strategies, the ways in which theological messages are integrated or reinterpreted through diverse artistic languages, as well as the impact these practices have on communities and cultural environments. The panel invites introspection from those who investigate both the continuity and the new directions of Christian creation, offering an interdisciplinary framework for reflecting on the place of sacred art in contemporary society.
